Eating healthy already sucks. Give me a big chicken fried steak with cream gravy followed by a two hour nap! When trying to do the right thing and eating something that will make your heart and waste line feel a little better about ourselves, our wallet gets very very angry. Well, here are 10 things that you can do to cut down on completely burning up your credit cards… and I’m not suggesting dumpster diving.
Avoid spending too much on produce by sticking with the produce that is in season and try to buy local.
Go to the store with a list of you want/need and stick to it. Don’t let your supermarket trick you into buying something that you don’t need. They are really tricky!
Make sure to buy only what you will use. You’re not saving money by filling up your trash can with food that has turned bad.
Don’t buy fruit and veggies that have already been chopped up. The supermarket is going to mark up the price on these. Grab a knife and a cutting board and save yourself some money.
Skip the processed snacks and protein bars. It’s cheaper to stick to high-protein snacks and they will help you cut down on the sugar intake.
Ask the supermarket managers about specials and when you may see weekly mark-downs.
Eat less meat. I can’t believe that I’m saying that, but it’s true. You’ll save money by reducing or skipping the meat.
Eat less in general – smaller portions = less money.
Use Coupons – digital and physical – and look for weekly specials in your newspaper
Grown your own veggies
Speaking of coupons, I use the Inbox Dollars to print mine. Not only do I save money with the coupons, Inbox Dollars pays me to use them. It’s worth checking out.
